King Midas and

           The Golden Touch

The story tells of King Midas who is unable to distinguish between his want and need of gold.

Several new characters have been created in this musical version to help teach both the King and his daughter, Marigold, the principle of scarcity. The King's Jesters are always on hand to provide an amusing view of the King's greed. Meanwhile, the king's Royal Advisors attempt to persuade him to use more common ways of increasing wealth.

The King, who is too greedy to part with any money instead embarks on his own mission to enlarge his storehouses. He solicits the help of a Ditzy Chef to cook up some more gold and his Wacky Royal Gardeners to grow a "money tree." Of course the results are less than satisfactory, and the offenders are carted off to the dungeon.

The King's Executioner suggests that he raise taxes. In his greed, he is still not satisfied. As he pouts on his Royal throne, the Elvis twins magically appear to grant his wish, accompanied by the Doo Wop girls.

Midas learns all too quickly that the Golden Touch forces him to consider his opportunity cost, an observation beautifully sung by his Royal Announcer. He truly can't have everything he wants.
